At 6,000ft, mom, dad and three kids Jessica, Ethan, and Isaac look relaxed at the summit of Mt. Nimbus. Smiling, they face the camera for a photo as easily as if they were sat in the park at home in Seattle; the only difference being is that they’ve just climbed the longest via ferrata in North America. Perched here together, they’re enjoying the rewarding unobstructed views of the peaks and troughs of the mountain crests of British Columbia stretching out before them.

Living in the hustle and bustle of Dallas, Texas, Jeff Fearon and his family are immersed in the energy of big city life. While “Big D” is the home they love, for Jeff it’s the spaces less travelled that he wants most to share with his children. A heli-hiking adventure in B.C.’s Bugaboos

The whirring of the helicopter’s blades directly overhead sent vibrations into the rocky track we were crouched on, as our group heli-huddled together to stave off the wind gust. The thumping noise got louder and the force of the wind stronger, and just when it felt like we were all about to be bowled over the strength of the wind subsided. Out of the corner of my eye I saw our fluorescent-clad guide gesturing us toward the chopper which had touched down only a few feet in front of us, and we scooted toward the open door.
